A practical example
Fictional example. Replace the details and rates before use. CAD rates are illustrations, not price recommendations.
| Description | Quantity | Unit | Rate (CAD) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Road transport — fictional route | 1 | trip | 480 |
| Loading service | 2 | hour | 55 |
What to fill in
- Identify the shipment and agreed route; replace fictional references before use.
- This ordinary invoice is not a bill of lading, customs declaration or commercial trade invoice.
Connect the charge to the shipment
Use the consignment or shipment reference and identify the origin and destination relevant to the billed leg. If a single order involves several trips, make the dates or trip references distinct so the recipient can reconcile each movement.
Describe handling outside the transport fee
Loading, waiting or a special delivery service should be identifiable when separately agreed. Use the billed handling time or service count and its matching rate. Keep the same agreed basis for the main transport charge; a trip fee should not also multiply by distance unless that is how the charge was agreed.
Freight invoice questions
Can I group several consignments on one bill?
Yes. Give each shipment or transport leg a clear reference in its row. Keep separately agreed handling charges connected to the relevant consignment.
Can I add loading and transport separately?
Yes. Use separate rows with units that match the agreement, such as trip and hour.
Is this a customs commercial invoice?
No. It has no customs declaration, bill of lading or international trade certification fields.
